Ghanaian singer-songwriter Gyakie has paid a heartfelt tribute to late highlife legend Ebo Taylor during an interview on BBC Focus on Africa.
Speaking to the BBC Gyakie opened up about the profound impact Ebo Taylor had on her life while growing up describing his music as an integral part of her childhood memories.
“I really felt this one because he’s been part of my childhood memories. My dad used to play his music when we were young. His songs were inclusive,” she said.
The “Forever” hitmaker expressed deep sadness upon hearing of his passing noting that although he is no longer physically present his legacy will endure through his timeless music.
“Hearing that he’s no more with us, I felt really emotional and sad that we can’t see him in person but his music will live with us forever,” she added.
Ebo Taylor widely regarded as one of Ghana’s most influential highlife pioneers, inspired generations of musicians across Africa and beyond.
For artiste like Gyakie his sound not only shaped the nation’s music landscape but the entire world.
