University of Ghana political scientist Professor Ransford Gyampo has called for balanced handling of investigations into former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, urging state institutions to consider his reported health condition.
The appeal follows the Office of Special Prosecutor’s June 2 declaration placing Ofori-Atta on its wanted list for missing a scheduled interrogation regarding five high-profile financial investigations from his tenure.
While acknowledging the importance of accountability, Gyampo emphasized the need for verification of Ofori-Atta’s medical status and location before further actions.
His comments come as Ofori-Atta’s wife maintains her husband’s willingness to cooperate remotely during cancer treatment, having previously engaged with accountability bodies like CHRAJ.
The situation presents a complex test for Ghana’s anti-corruption institutions in balancing rigorous oversight with humanitarian considerations.
