Organised Labour has advised President John Dramani Mahama to proceed with caution and take his time in handling the process to remove Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.
Speaking at the 2025 May Day parade, the Secretary-General of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), Joshua Ansah, warned that rushing the removal of the Chief Justice could seriously affect Ghana’s democracy.
Chief Justice Torkornoo was recently suspended after a prima facie case was established following at least three petitions demanding her removal.
Issuing a solemn warning during his address at the May Day parade, Joshua Ansah said:
“Mr. President, Organised Labour is concerned. This matter puts our democracy on a slippery path,” Mr. Ansah said. “We ask you to hasten slowly and proceed cautiously. Your decision will have a big impact on the country.”
He also used the occasion to criticise the government for not doing enough to stop illegal mining, also known as galamsey, which continues to harm the environment and communities across Ghana.
