President John Dramani Mahama has admitted the difficulty of appointing only 60 ministers, as promised, despite receiving thousands of CVs from hopeful candidates.

Speaking at a Presidential Dinner in Accra on Wednesday, January 8, he emphasized the need to assemble a skilled team to meet the expectations of Ghanaians and deliver on his governmentā€™s promises.

ā€œI have hit the ground running,ā€ President Mahama said. ā€œToday, I had several meetings with key multilateral and bilateral partners to find ways to improve the lives of our people and address issues such as the economy. I expect everyone with a role to play to do the same.ā€

He acknowledged the pressure of fulfilling his commitment to a lean government, stating, ā€œYou wouldnā€™t want to be in my shoes when youā€™ve promised to appoint only 60 ministers, yet thousands of people are sending in their CVs. Some people may be disappointed.ā€

However, the President reassured the public that building a successful administration requires contributions beyond ministerial positions. He added, ā€œThe success of this administration will secure us another term, perhaps under a different leader. We must get this right to maintain the confidence of Ghanaians.ā€

Mahama also highlighted the importance of avoiding the mistakes of the previous administration, saying, ā€œGhanaians punished the NPP for arrogance, incompetence, and failing to listen to their challenges. Thereā€™s no use fighting for power if we will repeat the same mistakes. Thatā€™s why Iā€™m cautious.ā€

The Presidentā€™s remarks reflect his commitment to building a government that prioritizes the needs of the people and restores trust in leadership.
