(Photo by Marcel Engelbrecht – firo sportphoto/Getty Images)Former Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has revealed that over 50 players reached out to him following his dismissal, describing the messages as the “best validation” of his work with the national team.In an interview with German football magazine 11Freunde, Addo opened up about the unexpected outpouring of support he received after the Ghana Football Association ended his second stint as head coach on March 31.”More than 50 players got in touch with me, including some I had never called up,”** Addo revealed.”They naturally made me happy. I received calls again, I think. I counted over 50 WhatsApp messages. Even all players who were there in 2022 and not there now got in touch. And players I didn’t invite got in touch.”Addo explained that he always made an effort to communicate with players, even those he did not select for the squad.”I always try. I believe in trying to explain why one or the other isn’t called. There are also tactical reasons I gave them. I explained my perspective on things as to why they aren’t coming along. That I took the time to speak with them about it.”**The former Borussia Dortmund assistant coach admitted that the messages meant a great deal to him.”After I was fired, I received many messages. I received the messages which made me very happy. For me, it was the best validation.”Addo guided Ghana to qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup but faced criticism after the team failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. He was dismissed following a poor run of friendly results, including heavy defeats to Austria and Germany.
