The first gentleman of Ghana, President Mahama has officially reacted to the decrease in cocoa, which has become a topic of discussion.
President Mahama has asked cocoa farmers to be cool with the government following the reduction of cocoa prices from GH¢3,625 to GH¢2,587 per bag.
President Mahama has said that he is a cocoa farmer, hence, anytime the prices of cocoa fluctuate, he gets affected too.
“I planted cocoa on the 50 acres, so I’m a cocoa farmer. And so when the price was reduced by the government, it affected me too,” he said.
The president noted that “I want to be able to empathise with farmers, so that when we take any policy decision, we know that it has an effect on farmers, and we feel it ourselves”.
According to him, “If the price, if there’s no fertiliser, if the price of fertiliser is expensive, I feel it myself, because I also buy fertiliser”.
