Retired Kenya captain Victor Wanyama has revealed that he feels fortunate to have managed his injury issues over the past six years, allowing him to end his career on his own terms.”I would say I am lucky to manage my injury for the past six years and finish like this. So, I have no regrets,” Wanyama said. The 34-year-old announced his retirement from professional football on Wednesday, bringing down the curtain on a career that spanned four countries and six clubs. Wanyama rose to prominence at Celtic, became the first Kenyan to score in the Champions League, and later played for Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League. In recent years, however, his career was hampered by persistent injury struggles. Despite the setbacks, Wanyama expressed gratitude rather than bitterness.”To my family, friends, agent, the fans and the coaching staff that helped me throughout thank you.”The former Harambee Stars captain earned 68 caps for his country and remains one of Kenya’s greatest football exports. A boy from Muthurwa with a big dream, Wanyama leaves behind a legacy defined not just by trophies and milestones but by resilience and pride in representing his nation.
