Black Stars midfielder Francis Abu remains optimistic about his chances of featuring at the 2026 FIFA World Cup as he continues his recovery from a serious leg injury sustained in November 2025.

The Right to Dream graduate suffered a double leg fracture during Ghanas 20 defeat to Japan in the Kirin Cup, an injury that initially sparked fears of a prolonged absence that could rule him out of the global tournament.

However, the 24-year-old has dismissed those early concerns, insisting that his rehabilitation is progressing well and that he still has a realistic chance of making Ghanas World Cup squad.

He says medical assessments and steady progress on the training ground have reinforced his belief.

Abu, who is based in France, recently visited the Black Stars camp in Stuttgart ahead of their friendly against Germany, where he spoke about his recovery and his determination to return to top-level action.

I am in good spirits. I am on a good path to recovery, he revealed to 3Sports.

When asked about his World Cup prospects, he expressed confidence, noting that he has begun working with the ball and is gradually moving closer to full team training.

For sure, especially with where I am now in my recovery. I am now working with the ball alongside my physical trainer and progressing towards team training.

Reflecting on the injury, Abu admitted he has little memory of the incident itself.

I dont remember much of what happened. I just remember asking afterwards how long it would take to recover, he said.

Despite the setback, the midfielder made the trip to Stuttgart to reconnect with his teammates and show gratitude for their support during his rehabilitation.

They showed me support during these hard times. I received a lot of text messages and phone calls, and I thought it was important to come and see them, say thank you, and support them in this important game, he said.

With his recovery on track, Abu is now focused on completing his comeback and earning a place in coach Otto Addos squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, set to take place in June and July.
