His Royal Highness, The Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Edward, has expressed his anticipation in seeing Ghana being well represented in the next Commonwealth Games.
The Duke is in Ghana for a two-day visit aimed at strengthening the modern partnership between Ghana and the United Kingdom.
Speaking at a durbar where he was received by President Mahama on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, Prince Edward complimented Ghana’s cultural display, describing it “as a wonderful durbar and a great treat.”
He stated that he felt humble and expressed gratitude for the generous welcome and the title that was bestowed upon him.
The Duke also lauded the relationship both countries have and hoped it would continue for years to come.
“Britain and Ghana have an extraordinary shared history and a shared heritage, a heritage which you as Chiefs know too well—the understanding of what that means—and I’m delighted to be able to see that the traditions are continued. I hope we continue our relationship as two countries with mutual respect for our common prosperity and to empower the use of the future to take on those roles as we go forward,” he said.
He also brought greetings from His Majesty, King Charles III, recounting how Ghana is held in high esteem in the King’s eyes.
“Ghana is a country he knows well, somewhere he’s visited before, and whose membership of the Commonwealth he takes very, very seriously.”
His Highness Prince Edward concluded by expressing gratitude for the opportunity to return to Ghana after a few years. He recounted his last time in the country back in 2018 and expressed how excited he was to reconnect, meet many people, and learn about Ghana.
