A 22-year-old inmate, Osman Kposu, currently serving an 18-month sentence at the Awutu Camp Prison, has opened up about how his involvement in theft derailed his education and led him into repeated conflict with the law.
Speaking in an interview with Crime Check TV, Osman admitted that his inability to pursue formal education was largely due to what he described as an addiction to stealing.
According to him, his criminal activities were mainly focused on stealing produce from farms, particularly cocoa.
Osman attributed his actions to the influence of a friend he identified as Jinake, whom he described as a negative influence in his life.

He recounted that during their first operation, the pair stole half a bag of cocoa, which they sold for GH¢950 and shared the proceeds equally. The incident eventually led to his initial imprisonment at the Ho Prison.
Despite his first encounter with the law, Osman said he returned to similar activities after being influenced again by the same friend.
He revealed that during a second operation, they sold another bag of cocoa for GH¢1,700. However, a disagreement between them resulted in him refusing to take his share of the money.
He later joined his friend for yet another theft, which ultimately led to his arrest.
Osman was sentenced to 18 months in prison after failing to pay a fine of GH¢2,100. He has so far served nine months of his sentence at the Awutu Camp Prison.
