Ghanaian comic actor Kwadwo Nkansah, popularly known as Lil Win, claims he has rejected a $20,000 bribe from an unknown individual who attempted to stop the production of his upcoming biopic on Burkina Faso’s president, Ibrahim Traoré.

In a video shared on his TikTok page on May 25, Lil Win revealed that a man approached him and his crew around midnight, attempting to persuade them to abandon the project. Flashing what appeared to be an envelope full of U.S. dollars, the actor said the man claimed he had been sent by a powerful figure who believed the film would not be beneficial.

“A man I didn’t know came to meet us around 12 a.m. a day ago,” Lil Win said in the video. “He told us his boss had sent him to convince us to drop the project because it wouldn’t help. He mentioned there were gifts prepared for my team and me if we agreed to stop. To show he was serious, he presented $20,000.”

Despite the offer, Lil Win publicly declared his commitment to completing the film, which he believes will help project Africa positively to the world.

“This movie, I will never stop shooting. I’m still on set shooting Ibrahim Traoré to support the vision of Africans. I will not take any money to stop shooting this movie. I will not stop shooting. I’m still shooting on set.”

The Kumawood star’s biopic about President Ibrahim Traoré first gained public attention on May 21, after Lil Win shared a teaser of the upcoming film. The clip featured the actor and his cast dressed in military uniforms resembling those worn by Traoré and his comrades.

The film aims to chronicle the Burkinabè leader’s rise to power and his leadership, a subject that has reportedly stirred controversy among some Ghanaians.
