Ghanaian rapper and entrepreneur, Desmond Kwesi Blackmore popularly known as D-Black has revealed that he was dismissed from Pope John Senior High School and Minor Seminary after consistently breaching school rules in pursuit of his passion for music.

The “Vera” hitmaker recently shared how his commitment to building a music career conflicted with the strict discipline at the Catholic boys’ school, ultimately leading to his expulsion in his final year.

In a conversation with Blac Volta on April 24, he explained, “In my final year, I faced expulsion. In boarding school, you are suspended the first time you violate the rules. You’re deboardinsed the second time. And you are expelled the third time.”

Recalling his first violation, D-Black said leaving the Koforidua-based boarding school without authorization to travel to Accra and record with Obrafour and Edem marked the beginning of his troubles.

“I dropped out of the boarding school in my first year to come to Accra for the sole purpose of rapping. I got the chance to record at a studio. Hammer was working on a compilation CD there, while Obrafour and Edem were recording. We were invited to join them. I was suspended for the first time.”

Despite the initial disciplinary action, D-Black continued to flout school regulations in order to follow his artistic dreams, which ultimately led to his expulsion the following year.
