Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) stalwart and leading member of the Movement for Change, Hopeson Adorye, has revealed that he was paid a meagre monthly salary of GH¢2,700 during his time as a National Security Officer stationed at the airport.

In a live Facebook video broadcast on April 29, Adorye said although he was appointed by then-President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the financial rewards of his role were surprisingly low, considering the weight of the assignment.

“When President Akufo-Addo said he was appointing me to the airport, he instructed the National Security officials to post me there,” he stated. “Even the National Security coordinator’s salary is very low. My annual salary was GH¢38,000, which translates to GH¢2,700 monthly.”

Adorye explained that he raised concerns with the President over the salary, especially since other government appointees were earning significantly more.

“I asked the President what he expected me to do with such a small amount, and he told me not to worry, that it would be rectified. He said National Security is also part of the Office of the President,” he added.

According to him, while ministers were earning over GH¢40,000 per month, an amount that exceeded his entire annual salary, he continued to work diligently, motivated by a desire to serve the country.

“We were doing the donkey job while others were benefiting from our sweat with bigger positions and salaries,” Adorye lamented. “You can go to the National Security office today. I have a file there. Check with the Finance Department and ask about my salary.”

He named former President Akufo-Addo and National Security Minister Albert Kan-Dapaah in his revelations, insisting that the records would back his claims.
