Ghanaian music icon Samini has cleared the air about his unexpected performance at the 2025 Ghana Journalists Awards, revealing that he was never officially billed to perform at the event.
Speaking in an interview with Kwame Dadzie and Doreen Avio on Hitz FM on Wednesday November 12, the “Linda” hitmaker explained that his appearance on the awards stage was purely spontaneous and born out of friendship.
“I originally was not billed to perform on that show,” Samini said. “A friend of mine, who happens to be the current president of the GJA, called me when I got back to town two days before the event — that’s how I ended up performing.”
The veteran performer, known for his electric live shows, also addressed the technical glitch that occurred during his set, noting that such moments are part of the unpredictability of live performances.
“For a live performer, every once in a while you should expect glitches here and there because it’s a live thing — a lot of things are happening at the same time. My monitors on stage were off, and every live performer would understand what that means,” he explained.
Despite the sound hiccup, Samini’s surprise performance added an extra spark to the star-studded night, proving once again that true performers always rise to the occasion — even when they weren’t on the bill.
