Ghanaian rapper and songwriter, Okyeame Kwame, has expressed strong confidence in his ability to reclaim the coveted Artiste of the Year title at the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA).

Speaking in an exclusive interview on Hitz FM with Kwame Dadzie and Doreen Avio on April 13, the rapper did not mince words when asked about his ability and chances of winning the top honour again.

“Oh definitely! There are no doubts. It’s impossible that it won’t happen again. Whatever I say I will do, I do. Maybe you don’t know me well. And it is not difficult. It is not difficult to win the TGMA Artiste of the Year. If I am able to do all the things I am saying I will do in a year and I get three big hits, I am Artiste of the Year. It’s that simple,” he stated.

The award-winning musician further highlighted his academic background and expertise in public relations and marketing as key advantages in his quest.

“Don’t forget that I have an MPhil in Public Relations, I have a master’s in Marketing Strategy, do you understand? I am a co-opted member of a Chartered Marketing Institute of UK. What I mean is I know marketing and I know PR. I mean I can map up my stakeholders to the point that people see what I am doing. And if I do what I am supposed to do, I am Artiste of the Year easily,” he explained.

However, he acknowledged that the success of his music ultimately depends on audience reception.

“What I don’t have control over is the three to four big hits, and that one I leave it to the audience. If the audience loves three of my songs, I will be Artiste of the Year.”

Okyeame Kwame has already secured the prestigious Artiste of the Year title twice in his career, first in 1999 as part of the hiplife duo Akyeame alongside Okyeame Quophi, and later as a solo act in 2009.
