Germany-born forward of Ghanaian descent Ilyas Ansah says his immediate priority remains fully embracing his growth at 1. FC Union Berlin, as the young striker continues to establish himself in top-flight football.
The 21-year-old attacker is enjoying a breakthrough phase in the Bundesliga and believes the lessons gained at club level are shaping a crucial stage of his development.
With increasing attention surrounding his international allegiance, Ansah has made it clear that his current focus lies on maximising his progress in Berlin rather than rushing into a major national team decision.
“I’ve decided to soak up everything I’m currently experiencing at Union and continue playing for the German U21 team,” Ansah explained, as quoted by Tribuna.com.
“After the U21 European Championship, I’ll look into it next year and make a decision. As things stand, I won’t be going to the World Cup with Ghana.”
Ansah was born in Germany but of Ghanaian descent, and is eligible to to play for both nations at senior level.
Having featured regularly while contributing five goals and two assists in 26 matches, the forward continues to view his Union Berlin journey as a formative period, one he believes will ultimately influence the direction of his international future.
