Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno, Inspector‑General of Police (IGP), has urged Chief Inspectors sitting this year’s Police Competitive Promotional Examinations (PCPE) to work hard to meet the pass mark.
He said only candidates who met the required pass mark would be selected into the Police Academy, emphasising that the process would be strictly merit-based.
Mr Yohuno said this in response to rumours of favouritism ahead of the examination involving thousands of Chief Inspectors nationwide.
“On behalf of the Police Management Board (POMAB) and the Police Council, I wish all the candidates well in this year’s examination.
“All candidates are to note that the administration does not have any hand in the selection process. It is only your performance that will speak for you. So put in all your best,” he said.
The IGP dismissed claims of interference and urged candidates to focus on their preparations.
“Nobody from anywhere is going to favour anybody ahead of anyone. So don’t listen to all the rumours. Just concentrate on your studies and if you are able to meet the pass mark, you will be given the opportunity,” he said.
Mr Yohuno acknowledged the competitive nature of the examination, noting that more than 7,000 candidates were vying for limited slots.
“You cannot blame anyone because all the candidates are qualified. However, we all know that we cannot take these huge numbers at ones,” he said.
The Police Administration has approved 7,133 Chief Inspectors to participate in this year’s examination to select candidates for training at the Police Academy.
The examination is scheduled for Sunday, April 12, 2026, at three centres in Accra.
Orientation and related activities, organised by the University of Cape Coast, will be held on Friday, April 10, 2026, at the National Police Training School grounds.
Candidates have been provided with orientation guides outlining the rules and regulations for the examination.
An earlier Police circular said the first 700 candidates in order of merit will be selected for Cadet Course 54 and Cadet Course 55.
