Former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has declared his intention to contest the 2028 presidential elections, vowing to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to victory.
Speaking to guests at his 65th birthday celebration held in Accra on Sunday, June 22, 2025, Mr. Agyapong made a bold proclamation about his political comeback.
The event, an all-white affair, was attended by prominent personalities and top executives of the NPP. A video of the moment was sighted by Ghana Weekend.
“I am using my birthday celebration to declare that next time, which is 2028, I am going to contest. And this presidential primaries the NPP is about to do, no matter what they do, I will win. If they want, they can even do it tomorrow, I will win,” he said confidently.
“So, nobody should panic. Have faith that next time around, we will work hard so that I lead the party. And when I lead, I will make sure I win the general elections”.
His comments come at a time of reported internal cracks within the NPP following the party’s defeat in the 2024 general elections. The party is set to hold an early presidential primary on January 31, 2026, to elect a new flagbearer.
Kennedy Agyapong’s declaration has already stirred discussions within the party and beyond, as he positions himself for a potential comeback to front-line politics after his previous bid for the NPP’s 2024 ticket.
