Ghanaian hiplife and rap legend, Emmanuel Kofi Botwe, popularly known as Kwaw Kese, has shared his thoughts on faith and church attendance, stating that the most important place of worship is within one’s heart.

Speaking in an exclusive interview on Hitz FM with Kwame Dadzie and Doreen Avio, the musician was asked whether he attends church regularly. In response, Kwaw Kese revealed that although he does attend church, it is not on a consistent basis.

“I believe the biggest church one can have or attend is in your heart,” he stated.

According to him, he visits different churches occasionally but is not a committed member of any particular congregation. He emphasized that true worship goes beyond physical attendance.

The rapper added that some people, including his wife, sometimes assume he does not pray because they do not see him doing so openly. However, he clarified that he prays inwardly.

“The fact that it doesn’t come out doesn’t mean I don’t pray,” he explained, stressing that his relationship with God is personal.

Kwaw Kese also reflected on his upbringing, revealing that he was once a devoted member of the Christ Apostolic Church, the church his late mother attended and where he was raised. However, as an adult, he now chooses to worship differently, visiting various churches from time to time while maintaining that his primary place of worship is his heart.

When asked how he feels whenever he attends church today, the musician admitted that he often notices people staring at him, whispering, and questioning whether it is truly him.

He further addressed public perceptions about musicians, stating that some people believe artists who do not perform gospel music are evil. According to him, the situation is sometimes worsened by his appearance, particularly his dreadlocks and Rastafarian image.

Despite such assumptions, Kwaw Kese maintained that he considers himself spiritually grounded.

He concluded by asserting that he may even be closer to God than some individuals who attend church regularly.
