Ghanaian songstress Sefadzi Abena Amesu, better known as Sefa says she is thriving independently after parting ways with her former record label, Black Avenue Musik, owned by rapper and businessman D-Black.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Ghana Weekend at the premiere of GH QUEENS Season 3, on September 16, the “Echoke” hitmaker revealed that she has been doing “amazing” since moving on from the label.
“I’ve been doing amazing, I’ve been happy, I’ve been trying. Of course, it’s not always easy when you leave a label and you’re suddenly handling things on your own, but I’m glowing and doing okay,” she said with a smile.
On whether she is considering signing onto a new label soon, Sefa made it clear that she has no such plans. “I don’t think I’m ready to reach out to any label at this point,” she stated.
Sefa was signed to D-Black’s Black Avenue Musik in 2017 and quickly became one of the label’s standout acts. Under the label, she released several successful singles, including “Shuga” featuring DopeNation and her chart-topping Afrobeats anthem “Echoke,” which dominated airwaves in Ghana and beyond.
She was also featured on major stages and collaborations during her time with the label, cementing her place as one of the leading young female voices in Ghana’s music scene.
While her exit from Black Avenue Musik was relatively quiet, Sefa has continued to maintain relevance in the industry, performing at shows and releasing music independently. Her recent appearance on GH QUEENS reflects her evolving brand, now stretching beyond music into lifestyle and entertainment.
The premiere of the reality show GH QUEENS Season 3 drew celebrities, influencers, and fans, setting the tone for another season of glitz, drama, and star power in Ghana’s reality TV space.
