Dr Sam Ankrah

Dr Sam Ankrah, an independent presidential candidate in the 2024 elections has lashed out at President John Dramani Mahama over what he views to be a “clear case of interference” in the workings of the judiciary.

In a social media post, Dr Sam Ankrah who is the leader of the Alternative Force for Action slammed the government over the removal processes instituted against the Chief Justice, Gertrude Araba Tokornoo.

He questioned the government and sought answers on if the actions against the Chief Justice are what President Mahama promised in his “resent agenda”.

He believes that the government of John Dramani Mahama is setting Ghana back with the impeachment processes against the Chief Justice.

“I am profoundly disappointed with President Mahama; an individual of his expertise and prominence ought not to exhibit such pettiness.

“If this does not constitute political meddling, what does? He should recognise that those urging him lack any reputation or standing to safeguard. It is regrettable that he will jeopardise his name for the sake of a few followers’ contentment.

“I believed we were progressing and advancing. Is this what he refers to as a reset? The NDC may have merely adopted the reset concept from the AFA reboot without comprehending the intricacies involved. It is undoubtedly a sombre day in Ghanaian politics,” he said.

His outburst follows the suspension of the Chief Justice by President John Dramani Mahama.

President John Mahama, on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Torkornoo.

According to a statement signed by the Spokesperson to the President and Minister of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the suspension follows the establishment of a prima facie case against the Chief Justice by the President, in consultation with the Council of State, in relation to three petitions filed against Justice Torkornoo.

“President John Dramani Mahama has, in accordance with Article 146(6) of the Constitution and in consultation with the Council of State, determined that a prima facie case has been established in respect of three petitions against the Chief Justice, Her Ladyship Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo,” the statement, dated Tuesday, April 22, 2025, stated.
