The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi has described Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen’s backlash at former President John Agyekum Kufuor as shameful.
Chairman Wontumi, during a press conference on Thursday, 21st November, 2024, expressed his utmost disappointment at the statements made against the former President by John Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen.
The founder and Independent candidate for the Movement for Change, Alan Kyerematen in an interview with Oyerepa TV in Kumasi hit out at former President John Agyekum Kufuor over his decision to endorse the NPP’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia ahead of the 7th December, 2024, presidential elections.
Mr. Kyerematen was reacting to a live interview the former President had with some selected Journalists which was aired on Sunday, November 17, 2024 on some selected media outlets.
In the interview, former President Kufuor stated that, Dr. Bawumia will elevate the country to the next level if he is voted as President.
However, Alan Kyerematen, who defected from the NPP to form his Movement for Change opined that it would have been better if the former President behaved like a true statesman by not endorsing the NPP Presidential candidate.
“What he [Mr. Kufuor] has done has created a big blot on his political career. Just take a look at the backlash generated against him following the endorsement. Look at the insults hurled at him. For someone who has had a distinguished career in politics, why should you sully yourself in a manner that calls for insults,” Mr. Kyerematen opined.
The statement made by Alan Kyerematen did not go down well with members of the NPP, hence their quick reaction.
According to Chairman Wontumi, Alan Kyerematen’s attitude is a clear indication that he never loved the NPP right from the onset, hence, his unhidden hatred and repulsion for the party.
“Everything Alan Kyerematen has ever done shows that he loved the NPP. Just as the biblical Judas denied Jesus, that’s exactly what Alan has done to the NPP.”
According to Chairman Wontumi, Alan Kyerematen has proven that he is ungrateful for what the NPP has done for him [Alan Kyerematen] ever since the party first came to power in the year 2000 in ex-President Kufuor’s tenure.
“If you could stoop so low for Mahama to incite you to insult President Kufuor, then it’s a very big shame,” Chairman Wontumi added.
