Aretha Abena Abrafi Duku is a seasoned insurance and risk management executive with more than 28 years of senior leadership experience spanning Ghana, Europe, South Africa and West Africa.
Renowned for driving transformational change, she has a strong track record in steering business turnarounds, leading Greenfield startups and delivering complex strategic programmes within multinational environments.
As Managing Director (MD) of Ghana Union Assurance LTD, she provides strategic direction and oversees underwriting, operations, compliance and overall organisational performance.
Her leadership has contributed to improved underwriting profitability, stronger corporate governance and the successful restructuring and regulatory separation of the company’s life and non-life business lines.
Aretha’s professional expertise spans insurance, reinsurance, project management, risk management and executive operations. She has successfully led initiatives involving financial viability analysis, benefit realisation frameworks, customer value management, innovative product development and corporate vision reshaping.
She is widely respected for her strategic insight, strong stakeholder management skills and ability to lead and inspire diverse teams. Her leadership influence extends beyond corporate roles to both national and continental levels, having served as President of the African Insurance Organisation (AIO) and the Ghana Insurers Association (GIA).
She has served on the boards of several institutions, including Ghana Union Assurance LTD, Ghana Oil and Gas Pool, Impact Life Insurance Company, Adehyeman Savings & Loans, Ghana Insurers Association, Private Enterprise Federation, Ghana Agricultural Development Pool, the ECOWAS Brown Card Insurance Scheme, the Ghana Stock Exchange Council, Prudential Bank and the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund), among others.
