The Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, has encouraged young footballers to shun drugs and focus on training, stating that substance abuse can ruin promising careers.
He made this statement while interacting with players at the ongoing Inter-District Juvenile Championship in Ho.
Over 500 U-15 and U-17 footballers from the Volta and Oti Regions are taking part in a weeklong tournament, which began on Monday, July 7, 2025, and will conclude on Sunday, July 13, 2025.
The Regional Minister, who is dedicated to the development of sports in the Volta Region, noted that football is a unifying force for development and progress.
He expressed his commitment to ensuring its evolution, recalling the initiation of the Regional Ministers Cup during his first week in office.
The first gentleman of the region promised to award the top team with footballs and jerseys at the end of the tournament.
Chairman of the Volta Regional Football Association (VRFA), Mr. Daniel Agbogah, encouraged players to exhibit good behavior while exhibiting their talents, which is the primary purpose of their participation in the tournament.

Present at the event were the Secretary of the Regional FA, Promise Michael Ahiagba, Regional Executive Council members, and all District FA chairmen.
The Inter-District Juvenile Championship provides an advantageous platform for young players in both the Volta and Oti regions to showcase their skills and be considered for selection in regional championships and national teams.
