The Running Mate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, on Wednesday donated GHC50,000 to women who work at a palm oil processing factory at New Tafo in the Abuakwa North Constituency, following a fire outbreak at the factory in April this year.

The donation was presented by Prof. Opoku-Agyemang on behalf of NDC Flagbearer, John Mahama.

Thousands of gallons of palm, along with all machinery for production, were completely destroyed, thereby disrupting the livelihoods of over 100 artisanal female palm producers and labourers at the factory.

As part of Wednesday’s tour of the Abuakwa North Constituency in the Eastern Region, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang visited the palm oil processing factory to empathise with the women and encourage them to get back on their feet again.

On behalf of Mr John Mahama, the NDC Running Mate donated GHC50,000 to the management of the factory to support their rebuilding process.

She was hopeful that the money would help to alleviate the suffering of the artisanal female palm oil producers.

The leader of the Palm Oil Extraction Factory, madam Elizabeth Amponsah, commended Mr Mahama and his Running Mate, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang for their support.

She blamed the recent power outages as the cause of the inferno, adding that the NDC, though in opposition, has been supportive since the incident.
