The iconic Vince Vega may be what many remember him for, but now John Travolta is stepping into a bold new role—director.
The Hollywood legend is set to premiere his first-ever feature behind the camera, Propeller One-Way Night Coach, in the Cannes Premiere section at the Cannes Film Festival. The Apple Original Films project will debut at the Debussy Theater inside the Palais des Festivals, with Travolta expected to attend the world premiere.
Adapted from a 1997 book written by Travolta himself, the film reflects his lifelong passion for aviation. A licensed pilot with over 9,000 flight hours, Travolta has flown everything from Boeing 707s to the Airbus A380—making the project a deeply personal one.
The story follows a young aviation enthusiast, Jeff (played by newcomer Clark Shotwell), who embarks on a one-way journey to Hollywood with his mother. What begins as a simple cross-country flight transforms into a magical coming-of-age adventure, filled with colorful passengers, unexpected stopovers, and glimpses into the golden age of air travel. The cast also includes Ella Bleu Travolta and Olga Hoffmann as flight attendants who add charm to the airborne journey.
Travolta is no stranger to Cannes, having previously appeared with films like Pulp Fiction, which won the Palme d’Or, as well as She’s So Lovely and Primary Colors. Across a career spanning more than five decades, he has cemented his legacy with classics such as Saturday Night Fever, Grease, Blow Out, and Hairspray.
Produced by JTP Films Inc. and Kids at Play, Propeller One-Way Night Coach is backed by Travolta alongside producers Jason Berger and Amy Laslett.
Following its Cannes debut, the film will launch globally on Apple TV on May 29, 2026.
