The Ghana Health Service has announced that starting from Friday, August 13, the much-awaited Johnson & Johnson vaccine rollout exercise will begin.
The exercise will begin in the Greater Accra Region on Friday and in the Ashanti Region on Monday, August 16.
The manager of Ghana’s Expanded Programme on Immunisation, Dr Kwame Amponsa-Achiano revealed that the vaccination exercise would be rolled out in 11 districts.
The Greater will see seven districts get the vaccines whereas four districts in the Greater Kumasi metro will also be vaccinated.
The GHS has said it will be targeting at-risk persons as far as this particular exercise is concerned.
“We are still looking at the most at risk. Of course, we are also pursuing additional vaccines for them. Everybody is at risk, but there are more vulnerable people, and so that is what we are looking at now,” Dr Amponsa-Achiano noted.
GHS however cautioned that it would not be offering the Johnson & Johnson jabs to persons who have previously received the AstraZeneca vaccine.
