Kamaldeen Sulemana featured for Atalanta BC but could not prevent a heavy 6–1 home defeat to FC Bayern Munich in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 clash at the Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo.

The Ghanaian winger started on the right flank and played 74 minutes as Atalanta endured a difficult evening against the German giants. Bayern asserted their dominance early in the contest, slicing through the Italian side’s defence with clinical finishing to establish a commanding lead within the opening half hour.

The visitors maintained their attacking momentum after the break, adding further goals to seal an emphatic victory and place one foot firmly in the quarter-finals of Europe’s elite club competition.

Sulemana, who has scored three goals and provided one assist this season mainly in a rotational role, was substituted late in the match as Atalanta attempted to regain control. The hosts managed only a late consolation goal in stoppage time.

The result leaves Atalanta facing a daunting challenge ahead of the return leg in Munich on March 18, needing a remarkable turnaround to keep their quarter-final hopes alive.
