Kanye West, now known as Ye, has attributed his absence from the Super Bowl halftime show spotlight to his long-standing feud with Taylor Swift and other controversial moments in his career.
In a recent X post, the rapper alleged that three specific incidents have prevented him from securing the coveted performance slot: his 2005 statement that “George Bush don’t care about Black people,” his public dispute with Swift, and his support for President Trump, exemplified by wearing a MAGA hat.
The origins of West’s feud with Swift trace back to the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, where he infamously interrupted her acceptance speech, asserting that Beyoncé deserved the award instead.
Tensions escalated further in 2016 when West referenced Swift in his song “Famous,” a move she claims was made without her consent.
This ongoing conflict has remained a persistent source of contention between the two artists.
Kanye West suggested in his post that these incidents, combined with other controversial statements and actions, including later remarks that drew accusations of antisemitism, have led to him being “blocked from the mainstage” at high-profile events like the Super Bowl.
He defended his behavior as misunderstood, claiming he was “ahead of his time” and alluding to additional personal reasons for his exclusion.
Despite his polarising career, West has never headlined a Super Bowl halftime show, though he did join Rihanna for a pre-Super Bowl performance in 2015.
Before removing the comment from the platform, it racked up 1.2 million views, 28,000 likes and 1,400 comments.
