Over 500 young people in the Ketu South constituency of the Volta Region have graduated with various vocational skills from a program initiated by the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, three years ago.
The initiative aims to empower beneficiaries by equipping them with practical skills for sustainable livelihoods.
Running for the past three years, the program has been described as life-changing for both the beneficiaries and the constituency at large. Participants have been trained in various trades, including dressmaking, hairdressing, shoemaking, plumbing, phone repairs, baking, ICT, and soapmaking.
As part of the program, the beneficiaries also sat for the National Vocational Training Institute (NVTI) exams and were presented with certificates during a brief graduation ceremony held at Agbozume.
In her address, MP Abla Dzifa Gomashie emphasized her passion for empowering young people, particularly women, through skill acquisition.
“This initiative is part of my commitment to creating job opportunities and reducing unemployment in our constituency. It is a joy to see these young people equipped with skills that can transform their lives and those of others,” she remarked.

However, she noted that the overwhelming number of participants prevented her from providing startup capital to all graduates. She emphasized the need to streamline future training sessions to ensure that subsequent cohorts receive financial support to kickstart their businesses.
“For the next batch, I plan to reduce the numbers so that I can provide them with the needed startup capital. For those who couldn’t sit for the NVTI exams this year, arrangements have been made for them to take it in February 2025,” she added.
The MP reiterated her commitment to expanding and sustaining the program to ensure more constituents benefit from it.
