Ghanaian blogger Kobby Kyei, who was nominated as MTN’s Digital Hero of Change, has explained why he withdrew from the category, citing concerns about the voting process.

His main issue was the decision by the MTN Heroes of Change board to limit voting to online platforms, specifically Facebook.

Kobby Kyei shared his concerns during an interview on *The Upside Down Show* on Channel One TV on May 11.

This followed a press statement he released a few weeks earlier on the same issue.

He argued that this approach may not fairly represent the efforts of individuals like himself, who are making impactful changes, especially in rural communities.

He noted that many of his supporters are more active on Instagram, while a significant portion of his audience does not use social media at all.

This, he said, could affect his chances of being properly recognised.

Kyei also spoke about the possible impact of staying in the competition, saying, “If another person wins over me, it is going to rubbish everything that I have done over the years.”

He expressed a desire for his work to be appreciated based on its impact rather than being judged through a voting system he views as flawed.

While acknowledging MTN’s major contribution to Ghana’s digital space, Kyei stressed that the voting method for the Digital Heroes category did not align with his values.

After discussions with the board confirmed that the voting process would remain unchanged, he decided to formally withdraw his nomination.
