Ghanas Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams, has set a high bar for the Black Stars as they prepare for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, emphasizing that their campaign must reflect progress, discipline, and credibility.

The teams recent friendlies against Austria and Germany were deliberately chosen to test their readiness against top-level opposition.

Despite a 5-1 defeat in Vienna and a 2-1 loss in Stuttgart, Adams insists the matches were strategic, aimed at simulating the style of play Ghana will encounter in the group stage.

We deliberately chose those matches, the Buem MP said. They were meant to expose the team to tough opposition and mirror what we expect against teams like England and Panama,” Adams added.

Adams pledged full support for the technical team, promising close collaboration with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to ensure the squad is fully prepared for the global tournament.

Following the dismissal of Otto Addo after the disappointing European outings, a new head coach is expected to be appointed before the team reconvenes in May. Preparations will continue with a friendly against Wales on June 2.

Ghana, making their fifth World Cup appearance, has been drawn in Group L with Panama, England, and Croatia. They will open their campaign against Panama on June 17, before facing England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27, aiming to surpass previous exits at the group stage in 2014 and 2022.
