Three senior high schools in the Eastern Region have been slapped with a two-year ban from all sports, entertainment, debates, and cadet activities following incidents of hooliganism during the recent Regional Super Zonal Sports Games.

The affected institutions are Koforidua Senior High Technical School (SECTECH), New Juaben Senior High School (NJUASCO), and New Nsutam Senior High Technical School (NSUTECH). The sanction, issued by the Ghana Education Service (GES) Eastern Regional Directorate, takes effect from February 11, 2026, and will run for a period of two years.

In a letter dated February 11, 2026, and signed by the Regional Director, Mrs. Ivy Asantewa Owusu, GES expressed displeasure over the schools’ involvement in disturbances, riots, and acts of hooliganism before, during, and after the competition.

The directive cites violations of the GES Code of Conduct (2.17 Physical and Psychological Violence) and the Eastern Region Schools and Colleges Sports Association (ERSCSA) Code of Discipline, specifically Articles VII (Disturbances/Riots/Hooliganisms) and VIII (Sanctions/Punishments).

“Based on this, the afore-mentioned Second Cycle Schools in the region are BANNED from organising, participating or taking part in all sporting activities, including quizzes, debates, cadetting, and entertainments, in the school, zone, and region, for a period of two (2) years effective 11th February, 2026,” the letter stated.

In addition to the ban, each school has been fined GHS 500.00 and will be surcharged for the cost of any damaged property or individual injury determined by a committee based on the extent of the damage. GES emphasised that the sanctions align with its Code of Conduct 3.0 and ERSCSA Article VIII.

The management of the Eastern Regional Education Directorate and the Regional 2nd Cycle Schools’ Sports Executives urged heads of the schools, students, staff, old students, and other supporters to adhere to all rules and regulations governing GES and ERSCSA to avoid further disciplinary actions.
