The Kpone Katamanso Municipal Health Directorate has been named the Overall Best Performing District in the Greater Accra Region for 2025, outperforming 28 other districts.
The recognition marks a dramatic turnaround for the municipality, which, just a year earlier, was ranked among the bottom three districts during the 2024 half-year performance review.
According to the Metro Director of Health Services, Kpone Katamanso, Esther Priscilla Biamah Danquah, the poor ranking came as a significant blow to the Directorate, particularly after months of intensive effort that had yet to yield measurable results.
However, rather than succumb to discouragement, the leadership and staff opted for a strategic reset. She disclosed that the Directorate undertook a comprehensive review of its performance data, identifying systemic gaps across key programme areas.
This process according to Ms. Danquah informed a series of targeted interventions, including enhanced monitoring systems, improved data reporting mechanisms, and closer technical support to health facilities across the municipality. “We also strengthened supervision, improved reporting, supported facilities more closely, and monitored progress consistently,” she added.
She says the result achieved Is a powerful reminder that when data guides decisions and teams stay committed, transformation is possible – while attributing the achievement to collective efforts of all health workers, management, community volunteers, and development partners who remained committed throughout the process.
Acknowledging other technical partners, she thanked JSI and MBryan Consulting for helping translate data into actionable strategies and regional health authorities for providing oversight and reinforcing accountability frameworks that kept the Directorate on track.
