The Ministry of Health says contractors working on La General Hospital are awaiting payment to return to the site after submitting a certificate for payment to the Finance Ministry.
3news had reported that work has come to a halt on the project scheduled to be completed before the general elections by the government.
Residents allege the contractor has run out of funds, forcing the workers to vacate the construction site for about a week now. A visit to the project site by 3news witnessed an empty yard with no worker on site working on the construction.
The Ministry, in response to the reportage, has clarified that work has not halted, but the contractor is awaiting payment for work to commence in line with standard operational procedures to all government projects.
“The Ministry confirms that the contractor overseeing this protect has recently submitted a certificate for payment as part of standard operational procedures. This certificate is currently being processed by the Ministry. It is essential to note that these procedures are standard across all government-funded projects, ensuring transparency and compliance with financial protocols. This in no way indicates a halt of the project, rather, it is a necessary step to guarantee the continuity of work,” it clarified.
“Contrary to TV3 s assertion, the construction of the La General Hospital has not been halted. In fact, over the past few weeks, significant progress has been made, with various stages of construction expedited to ensure timely completion. The Government of Ghana is fully committed to seeing this vital healthcare facility operational as soon as possible,” the Ministry explained.
The Ministry was, however, unable to tell when the contractor will receive funds for work to commence.
“The Ministry wishes to confirm unequivocally that the la General Hospital project has not halted.” it assured.
