A 26-year-old Nigerian woman has stirred widespread reactions on social media after revealing her decision to walk away from her marriage following her husband’s arrest and possible extradition to the United States over alleged fraud charges.
The story was shared anonymously by London-based Facebook user Ikenna Nwatu, who said the woman reached out to him for advice and requested that her identity be withheld.
According to the young woman, she married her husband two years ago in Aba, in what she described as a lavish ceremony widely known among residents of the city.
The couple later welcomed a son and by her account, she enjoyed a comfortable and luxurious lifestyle funded by her now-arrested husband.
However, their lives took a dramatic turn in September last year when her husband was arrested.
She disclosed that he is currently in the custody of Nigeria’s Department of State Services (DSS) in Abuja and is reportedly awaiting extradition to the United States.

The woman stated that their lawyer informed the family that her husband could face up to 15 years in prison if convicted in the U.S.
In her statement, the woman admitted she was aware of her husband’s involvement in internet fraud, commonly referred to as “yahoo yahoo,” before they got married.
“My husband is a yahoo boy which I am aware of,” she wrote.
Despite acknowledging that he provided her with a good life, she maintained that she never pressured or influenced him to engage in fraudulent activities.
“I know he gave me a good life for the past three years of knowing him, but I never forced or made him a yahoo boy. After all, he was already doing it before I met him,” she said.
She also accused him of living a flamboyant lifestyle and being unfaithful during their marriage, alleging that he entertained other women without her knowledge.
The 26-year-old mother said she does not believe she can put her life on hold for 15 years while her husband serves a potential prison sentence abroad.
“Honestly I am a young girl of 26 years and don’t think I will pause my life and wait for him in jail for 15 years,” she stated.
She disclosed plans to sell two properties her husband purchased in her name and possibly relocate abroad to start afresh with her son.
“People can judge me all they want but I think I will move on,” she concluded.
