Lead Counsel for the defendants in the Daddy Lumba case, Dominic Kojo Osei, says the latest court decision clearing the way for the funeral of the late music legend brings relief not only to the legal team but also to the musician’s fans and family.
Speaking after the Accra High Court confirmed that the funeral would proceed tomorrow, Saturday, December 13, Mr. Osei said the ruling ends weeks of tension that had overshadowed the musician’s final journey.
He noted that continued litigation would have been emotionally draining for the musician’s children and unnecessary at a time when the family should be united.
He expressed pride in the work of the defence team, saying they had once again proven their commitment and competence in representing their clients. According to him, the decision confirms their belief that the funeral should not be delayed any further.
Mr. Osei urged the public, especially fans of Daddy Lumba, to attend the burial ceremony at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi. He called on Ghanaians to rise above personal interests and show respect to the man he described as a national icon.
He added that tomorrow’s funeral is a moment of truth for all who claim to love the late musician.
“It is not just a relief to me, it is a relief for the fans, a relief for the family, it is for the children because it is not good tat at this time if your father is deceased there is a lot of litigation still hovering around him. But for us the lawyers, it is joy because once again we’ve demonstrated our competence that when it comes to standing for our clients we are one of the top notches.
“All roads lead to Kumasi Baba Yara Sports Stadium everybody who loves Daddy Lumba, everybody who can rise above self interest, greed should be there. We are urging everyone to pay their last respect to the legend…Tomorrow is a test for all who love Daddy Lumba. Al of us will be there,” Mr Osei stated.
