Veteran Nollywood actress Patience Ozokwo, popularly known as “Mama G,” has been honoured with an honorary doctorate degree in Theatre and Media Arts from the Achievers Network Academy in the United Kingdom.
The 66-year-old actress received this recognition for her decades-long contributions to Nollywood and African cinema.
The award ceremony presented by the University of Lagos (UNILAG) was attended by celebrities, friends and relatives on Saturday, November 30 2024.
The ceremony also celebrated Yoruba actors Adebayo Salami and Jide Kosoko for their legendary roles in the industry.
Sharing her excitement on Instagram, Ozokwo expressed gratitude, saying, “Today was like a movie. Honorary Doctorate Degree. Thank you, UNILAG. Thank you.”
The honourees were recognised for their significant efforts in making Nollywood a global phenomenon. Their lasting impact includes famous performances, mentorship of young talent, and the promotion of African culture via film.
Patience Ozokwor, a trailblazer in Nollywood, began her career as a radio announcer before rising to fame in the 1999 film Authority.
With over 100 movies to her credit, her standout performances include classics like Ukwa (2001), Blood Sister (2003), and Billionaires Club (2003).
