Ghanaian actress Salma Mumin has broken her silence following persistent public commentary and criticism about her body describing the ongoing scrutiny as excessive and harmful.
In a statement on Friday January 23, the actress addressed the mental, emotional, and psychological impact of the remarks, stressing that words are far from harmless.
According to her, constant discussions about her appearance have gone beyond opinion and have become damaging.
Mumin explained that her decision to alter her appearance was a deeply personal one made solely for herself.
She noted that she chose to change how she looked because she was unhappy with her previous appearance, emphasising that the decision had nothing to do with public approval, external opinions, or meeting societal expectations.
The actress condemned the transformation of personal opinions into mockery, cruelty, and constant judgment, noting that no one deserves to be spoken about in ways that undermine their peace and wellbeing.
She called on the public to be more mindful of the weight their words carry and to engage with greater care and humanity.
