M360 Urges Drivers And Passengers To Unite Against Traffic Violations

The coordinator for Highway Enforcement held a road safety awareness talk on the topic, “Road Safety Tips And Our Role As Road Users” for hundreds of students at the University of Education, Winneba. Dubbed ‘Road Safety Squa’, the event was geared towards reducing road carnages and casualties in the country,

Mr. Adinda Misbau gave tips on managing and sustaining oneself after graduating from the University. He asked graduates from the institution to seek new skills, leverage them, and add value to themselves.

Mr. Misbau then gave statistics on the occurrences of Crashes on our roads in the year. He emphasized the lost lives in road crashes. He disclosed that about one thousand two hundred and thirty-six (1236) people died during the first half of 2024. This, he referred to as a bad record as those precious lives can never be replaced. Besides the death records, he added, over seven thousand vehicles across the country were involved in the crashes. Those crashes, he explained, resulted in the victims sustaining injuries.

To address or minimize such injuries and fatalities, Mr Adindi Misbau advised drivers to be wary of the dos and don’ts governing their profession. This only, he stressed when done will ensure sanity on the roads. He also asked passengers to caution reckless drivers with decency whenever they drive carelessly.

He said, encouraging drivers to observe traffic regulations will avert many of the avoidable road crashes in the country. Mr. Misbau hammered the need for passengers to see sanity on the road as a shared responsibility and not the sole charge of the road safety enforcement agencies.

He enumerated speeding, drunk driving, wrongful overtaking, tired driving, and the use of mobile phones while driving vehicles, as the main causes of road casualties in the country.

Speaking on Emergency Aids, he expressed worry about how some individuals could afford to buy expensive vehicles yet consider first aid boxes and fire extinguishers pricey. These situations and other factors, according to Mr. Misbau, resulted in the loss of such expensive cars and lives.

He concluded by cautioning those who drive without licenses to acquire one before the unexpected happens.

The open forum saw the gatherings asking relevant questions during the program. They proposed running similar events regularly in all 16 regions of the country.

Mr. Misbau ended the day’s program with the students by taking them through laws governing driving and other legal issues.
