Tamale-based rap icon Maccasio has emerged as the Overall Artist of the Year at the maiden edition of the Ghana Northern Music Awards (GNMA) 2025, marking a historic moment for Northern Ghana’s music industry.

The award scheme, which seeks to recognize and celebrate outstanding musical talents across the five northern regions of Ghana, crowned Maccasio for his consistent dominance, cultural impact, and contribution to the growth of Northern music on both national and international stages. His win capped an impressive night that highlighted creativity, resilience, and regional pride.

Maccasio also clinched Viral Video of the Year with “Corner There”, further underlining his influence in shaping trends and driving conversations within the Ghanaian music space.

The awards night saw artists, producers, DJs, bloggers, and creatives rewarded across 31 categories, reflecting the diversity and depth of talent in the North. From Ataaka’s lyrical strength in hip-hop to Wiz Child’s dominance with Voice of Tomorrow, and strong regional representations by Saint Chicago (Upper East), Rekordz (Upper West), Drip Dwitt (Savanna), S Bio (Northern), and Sapashini (North East), the event celebrated excellence across borders.

International recognition was also evident as Shatta Wale received the Special Recognition Award (Ghana), while Nigerian superstar Davido was honored with the Special Recognition Award (Africa), symbolizing the growing global relevance of Northern Ghanaian music.

Organizers of the Ghana Northern Music Awards congratulated all winners and nominees, stating that the scheme remains committed to supporting artists as they journey through their career development and elevate the sound of Northern Ghana to greater heights.
