President John Mahama has appointed Rosemond Obeng, previously an aide to former NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, as Senior Presidential Staffer.
The appointment confirmed by MyNewsGh places Obeng within the Government Communications Office under Minister Felix Kwakye Ofosu.
Obeng resigned from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) days before the December 2024 elections to join the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC). Her transition aligns with other high-profile political defections between Ghana’s two dominant parties since 1992.
Labeled a “betrayer” by NPP members, Obeng publicly criticized Dr. Bawumia following her defection. On GHOne’s “State of Affairs” program in late 2024, she stated: “Based on my experience, he lacks courage and leadership to steer Ghana’s affairs,” adding that bad leadership yields “bad results.”
This contrasts with her 2022 social media post thanking Dr. Bawumia for supporting her further studies. As National NPP TESCON coordinator-turned-NDC staffer, Obeng’s appointment underscores ongoing political realignments in Ghana’s 2025 administration.
