Former President and leader of the NDC John Dramani Mahama says the NDC is committed to protecting the country’s peace during this year’s election. He said for peace to continue to prevail and for Ghana to emerge as the winner in the December polls, the police must ensure that no weapons and other security agencies except the police are seen at the polling centers.

Speaking at the 2024 peace campaign for the December 7 polls, Mr. Mahama said that as part of the NDC’s commitment to peace, they shall propose the signing of the peace pact to be extended to all stakeholders to ensure that the country’s peace is collectively protected.

The NDC flag bearer, called on the Electoral Commission to maintain impartiality and urged the judiciary to ensure fairness and neutrality in the event of any election disputes. He emphasized that justice is essential for peace and encouraged individuals to unite in their efforts to create a peaceful Ghana that promotes progress and happiness for all citizens.

“In respect to the pre-election peace accord, we will be making an official proposal to the National Peace Council to expand the signatories to the peace pact to include other important stakeholders in our elections.

“We believe that this will bind other important institutions to play their role for a peaceful election. It is our hope that this will make the pact a more binding commitment to peace, and not just a ceremonial piece of paper without any meaning.

“The Electoral Commission must be impartial and the judiciary must be fair and neutral in the event of any election dispute. Justice is a necessary imperative for peace,” He noted.
