Majority Caucus mourns Former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings

The Majority Caucus of Ghana’s Parliament has expressed deep shock and sorrow over the sudden passing of former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings.

In a statement signed by the Majority Leader and Leader of Government Business, Mahama Ayariga, the Caucus described the late Mrs. Agyeman-Rawlings as a dedicated stateswoman who made remarkable contributions to Ghana’s development and democratic governance.

“The Majority Caucus in Parliament of Ghana has learnt with shock, the reported sudden death of Her Excellency Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, former First Lady and wife of H.E. Flt. Lt. J.J. Rawlings, and mother of Hon. Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, MP for Klottey-Korle and Chairperson of the Security and Intelligence Committee of Parliament,” the statement read.

The former First Lady’s passing occurred early on Thursday morning, October 23, 2025 after a short illness.

On behalf of the Rt. Hon. Speaker Alban Bagbin, the entire Majority Members of Parliament, and the Parliament of Ghana, Mr. Ayariga extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and the nation at large.

“May her gentle soul rest in perfect peace. She paid her dues to this country,” the statement concluded.

Mrs. Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings served as Ghana’s First Lady from 1981 to 2001 and was widely recognized for her advocacy for women’s empowerment and her role in the establishment of the 31st December Women’s Movement.
