Ryan Giggs has urged Kobbie Mainoo to put thoughts of a January exit to one side and use Manchester Uniteds upcoming clash with Aston Villa as a platform to reclaim his place.

Mainoo, who has Ghanaian heritage, has endured a frustrating campaign at Old Trafford. After a summer loan request was rejected, the Euro 2024 finalist has yet to start a Premier League match this season, prompting renewed speculation about his future.

Despite keeping public silence on a possible move, Mainoo remains keen to force his way into England manager Thomas Tuchels plans ahead of next summers World Cup.

Speaking via BetSelect, the former United winger questioned the value of a short-term loan, warning that a poorly chosen move could hinder rather than help Mainoos development.

Every player wants to play in the World Cup and be on the pitch for their club. But if he goes on loan somewhere, hes only got three or four months to really hit the ground running. What club has he gone to?Is it a club thats getting beaten every week, and its not doing him any favours? Or is it somewhere hes going to be in and out of the team?He needs to make sure that when he gets his chance, he does well, especially around this time when the games come thick and fast.I thought he did well the other night when he came on against Bournemouth. He just needs to take his chance, and anything can happen. If he suddenly takes these opportunities and hes playing regularly until the end of the season for Man United, that will give him more chance [at the England Squad] than going anywhere else.

With Casemiro suspended for Sundays trip to Villa Park, Mainoo is among the candidates to partner Fernandes, having recently been introduced ahead of Manuel Ugarte.
