Controversial Ghanaian legal practitioner, Lawyer Maurice Ampaw, has strongly criticised the recent divorce settlement involving business mogul Richard Nii Armah Quaye, vowing to challenge the ruling through every available legal channel.
The case, which has attracted significant public attention saw the High Court award a lump sum of GHS 300,000 to Mr Quaye’s ex-wife, Joana Coffie, as part of the divorce settlement.
However, Lawyer Maurice Ampaw has described the ruling as “highly unfair and unjust,” arguing that it fails to reflect the contributions made by the woman during the marriage.
Speaking in an interview on Lawson TV, Lawyer Maurice Ampaw warned that the judgment could have wider implications for society.
“This is someone who has stood on a national platform and said that he cannot even spend 2% of his networth” he stated, questioning why such a modest amount was awarded.
He further argued that the ruling could set what he described as a “dangerous precedent,” particularly in how courts assess financial settlements in divorce cases.
Ampaw did not hold back in outlining his next steps, declaring his intention to escalate the matter through the judicial system.

“I am going to run justice for Mrs Nii Quaye. I will put pressure on the judge; after that, I will petition the Court of Appeal judges. I will make sure the case goes to the Supreme Court,” he said.
In a statement that has since stirred intense debate online, Ampaw suggested that the ex-wife might have received a larger share of the businessman’s assets under different circumstances.
“Do you know that if the lady had unalived the man, she would have gotten at least more than half of the properties?” he claimed, a remark that has drawn mixed reactions from the public.
The lawyer’s comments have reignited discussions about fairness in divorce settlements, particularly in high-profile cases involving wealthy individuals.
While some have backed Ampaw’s stance, others have criticised his approach and the tone of his arguments.
