Rangers midfielder Mohamed Diomande has made it clear that he has turned down Ghana’s interest, expressing his lifelong dream of representing Ivory Coast instead.
Diomande, who embarked on his football journey at Ghana’s Right to Dream Academy after relocating at a young age, was surprised by a call-up to the Ghanaian national team, the Black Stars, in March.

However, he declined the invitation and also chose not to join the Ivory Coast U23 team, opting to take some time to make a final decision.
He has decided now, revealing in a recent interview with Nostafoot, “My dream has always been to represent Ivory Coast, the country of my parents.”

“I am ready to play with the Elephants at the senior level or with the U23s.”
Diomande’s decision comes ahead of Ivory Coast’s upcoming June 2026 World Cup qualifiers, where the reigning African champions are scheduled to face Gabon and Kenya on June 7th and 11th, respectively.
Currently leading their group, Ivory Coast aims to maintain their position at the top of the table with strong performances in these critical fixtures.
