Civil engineering graduate Mubarak Amarh has set his sights on the 2026 Commonwealth Games after winning light heavyweight gold at the Ghana Boxing Federation National Individual Amateur Boxing Championship.

The championship was held on February 27 at the Bukom Boxing Arena, where Amarh delivered a dominant performance in the 81kg final. The Seconds Out Gym boxer stopped Abdul Wahab of Sonia Gym after sending him to the canvas three times in one round, forcing the referee to halt the contest on safety grounds.

GBF Vice President Nii Gonti Adjor I, also known as Nii Adama Addy, praised the bout’s officiating, stressing that safety remains paramount in amateur boxing.

Coach Danny Aryee Quaye said Amarh’s victory strengthens his case for selection to Ghana’s Black Bombers ahead of major international assignments, with Glasgow 2026 scheduled for July 23 to August 2.

Amarh, an Accra Technical University graduate nicknamed “The Professor,” says the Commonwealth Games will serve as vital preparation as he pursues his ultimate ambition of competing at the Olympic Games.
