Renowned Ghanaian media personality, Nana Aba Anamoah, has given the current National Democratic Congress (NDC) government, led by President John Dramani Mahama, a strong approval rating of between 75 and 80 percent after one year in office.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Kwame Dadzie on Joy FM, Nana Aba Anamoah was asked to assess the performance of the Mahama-led government since taking over from the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration under former President Nana Akufo-Addo.
“Well, I will give them 75–80 percent because I think that the President, John Dramani Mahama, has stabilized the economy and his Finance Minister is doing an excellent job,” she stated.
According to her, Ghana’s economy is performing “very well” compared to what she described as a turbulent period during the final three to four years of the previous NPP administration. She noted that beyond economic challenges at the time, there was also a perception of arrogance among some government officials.
Nana Aba criticized what she described as dismissive attitudes toward journalists and members of the public, arguing that certain utterances on radio and public platforms reflected a lack of humility. “It was just arrogant. It was very arrogant,” she emphasized.
Touching on President Mahama’s return to office, she described his second coming as “a great one,” adding that he appears to have learned valuable lessons from his first administration between 2012 and 2017. While acknowledging that the previous term had some challenges, largely linked to certain appointees rather than the President personally—she believes the current administration reflects growth and greater caution.
According to her, the President’s appointees now appear more responsive, diligent, and present when needed. She specifically commended the Gender Minister for being highly responsive and proactive in addressing issues promptly. Nan Aba also praised the Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, describing him as accessible and effective in his role. In addition, she highlighted the work of Obuobia Darko-Opoku, whom she described as her personal favorite among the current appointees.
The award-winning journalist expressed admiration for Obuobia Darko-Opoku’s leadership of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, popularly known as MahamaCares, noting that she appreciates the energy and commitment being demonstrated in the initiative.
Concluding her remarks, Nana Aba Anamoah said the future looks promising under the current administration, adding that the government’s improved approach and attitude have contributed to renewed public confidence.
