The National Service Authority Staff Union (NASASU), under the Divisional Chapter of the Public Services Workers’ Union (PSWU), Ghana, has issued a strong condemnation of attempts by political party foot soldiers to hijack the operations of the National Service Authority (NSA).

In a statement signed by its Chairman, Ayirebi Adubofour, NASASU emphasised that such practices undermine democracy, erode public trust, and compromise institutional integrity.

The union reaffirmed that the NSA operates as a public institution under the Public Services Commission and adheres strictly to constitutional provisions, including Article 195 and the National Service Authority Act, 2024 (Act 1119). It stressed that recruitment and transfers within the NSA are conducted based on approved schemes of service and are not subject to external political influence.

NASASU called on the youth in the Western Region to exercise restraint and urged management to uphold the principles guiding the Authority’s operations. The union also appealed to the government to protect state institutions like the NSA from political interference and advised political parties to respect the Authority’s independence.

Furthermore, the union warned that continued attempts to politicise the NSA’s operations could destabilise its mandate to equitably serve Ghanaian youth, emphasising that such actions risk exacerbating public disillusionment and undermining national service programs critical to national development.
